New Guru of Sex

Having written scripts for popular Bollywood films like Bandit Queen, Kama Sutra and Mangal Pandey — The Rising, Farrukh Dhondy is now ready with his next film titled Guru Of Sex, based on the life of Osho Rajneesh. The film, being directed by Kanad Kashyap, stars big names from Hollywood which the director is not ready to reveal yet.

Speaking about the film, Dhondy says, "Guru of Sex was the title given to Osho by The Times Of India. My film begins as an investigative story through the eyes of a female journalist Hunter Mayle and her sister and brother-in-law. Guru of Sex deals with how Mayle gets involved in the search of truth. The key to the whole plot is sex, but the film is not just about sex. It’s about spirituality and human mind and India’s relationship with the West. It’s a story about the spiritual teachings of sex by a man who never enjoyed sex."

Farrukh, who was born and brought up in Pune, informs that he interviewed Rajneesh in the 80’s. "He was then known as Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh. I observed the ashram for two days and interviewed him on the fourth day. He was extremely powerful and used to read jokes from Playboy magazines," reveals Farrukh.

He further adds, "This film is a fiction and not based on his life. I read a lot of books and heard tapes before I began writing the script. Instead of Koregaon, Pune, we plan to shoot the entire film in Cambodia, Vietnam where Rajneesh started his teachings before he moved to Koregoan. There are resorts in the pagoda style in Cambodia and we will get natural sets."

The film is being produced by Rashmee Seengal and Divya Seengal and is being made with a budget of 122 million dollars. After Guru of Sex, Dhondy is writing an adaptation of V.S. Naipaul’s book Bend In The River.
